About us
The Classical Music Society (CMS) is run by students at the University of Essex and, after being reformed in 2005, has gone from strength to strength. This year we hope to attract over 100 members including University students, staff and any local musicians of Grade 5+ standard. We have exciting things planned not just for musicians but for anyone with an interest in music. All the times below are provisional and subject to change.
q The Colchester Institute Orchestra - Meet several weeks before concert
q String Group - Mondays 7-8pm LTB 4 (Autumn and Spring term only)
q Flute Choir - Wednesdays 6-7pm Music Room B, under Barclays bank (Autumn and Spring term only)
q Woodwind Group - Date and Room to be announced (Autumn and Spring term only)
q Jazz Band - Wednesdays 7-9pm Music Room B, under Barclays bank (all terms)
q Close Harmony Group - Monday 7-8pm LTB 6 (Autumn and Spring term only)
q Ensembles - Ensemble groups subject to demand (Autumn and Spring term only)
q Performance opportunities - several lunchtime concerts, evening concerts, summer ball, Charity Week, Top Bar
q Trips - including London musicals and concerts and local events
q Fundraising - performing and raising money for charity
q Volunteering - performing in local nursing homes and nursery on campus
q University Exchange - playing with another university orchestra
q Workshops - with professional musicians for beginners and improvers
q Socials - on campus, supporting University Choir and Jazz Band
