Biographical information
I am a lecturer in the Department of Language & Linguistics at the University of Essex. I joined the Department in January 2005 after completing my PhD at Lancaster University. My PhD thesis deals with the role of metalinguistic knowledge in adult second language learning. My MA degree is from the University of Hamburg in Germany, where I studied English philology and social and economic history. After moving to the UK in 1997, I worked as a German language tutor at various universities and colleges in Lancashire and the Manchester area. While studying for my PhD from 2000 to 2004, I additionally taught applied linguistics at Lancaster University.
