IEEE International Workshop on Network and System Security (NeSS) September 25-27, 2008, Dalian, P. R. China in conjunction with 10th IEEE Int. Conference on High Performance Computing and Communications (HPCC-08): http://hpcc08.dlut.edu.cn/ |
A practical network or application system is expected to work without being compromised by malicious parties. Hence, security is of paramount importance in networks and networked systems. Much effort has been devoted to security mechanisms over the past years and enormous research outcomes have been presented. However, there are still plenty of challenging and exciting research issues to be further tackled in core networks, access networks (fixed or mobile), and user personal networks. Security mechanisms unavoidably introduce overheads, both in terms of computing resources and network bandwidth resources. How to reduce this overhead to improve resource utilization on one hand and to reduce network delay or application response time on the other hand is still a challenge. This workshop is particularly interested in research proposals and results that address security and cryptographic mechanisms from the perspectives of its high-performance and resource-efficiency. But other papers addressing security from different angles are also solicited. Original research papers on security applied to all types of networks, services and systems, are welcomed. Answering the highly practical and commercial importance of network security R&D, submissions of applications-oriented papers describing case studies and simulations are also encouraged.
A list of interested topics (but not limited to) are as follows:
§ Authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA) protocol; key management;
§ cryptographic algorithms and applications;
§ attack modelling and prevention;
§ intrusion detection and prevention;
§ virus and spam detection;
§ digital right management
§ secure physical layer algorithms and protocols such as secure clock synchronisation
§ secure MAC layer algorithms and protocols in different types of networks including WiFi, WiMAX, optical passive networks, etc
§ secure routing protocols, secure unicast/multicast/broadcast
§ cross-layer design of security mechanisms
§ security in heterogeneous networks
§ security in fixed mobile convergence (FMC)
§ secure system architecture, distributed security schemes
§ security in various application domains such as e-commence, peer-to-peer systems, vehicular system, web application, disaster relief etc
§ security in Grid computing
Submission Guidance
Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. All papers are refereed through a peer review process. Authors are invited to submit research and application papers following the IEEE Computer Society Proceedings Manuscripts style: two columns, single-spaced, including figures and references, using 10 fonts, and number each page. Page limit for camera ready workshop papers in IEEE CS style is 6 pages. All accepted papers will be published by IEEE CS press. The accepted workshop papers are also eligible for journal publication. Authors of accepted papers, or at least one of them, are requested to register and present their work at the conference.
