About Myself
I am currently a Chair Professor in School
of Computer Science & Electronic Engineering (CSEE), University
of Essex, and the Head of the Network Convergence Laboratory, University of Essex. I am a
Fellow of IET, Senior Member of IEEE,
Member of IEEE ComSoc, and Member of ACM.
I got my PhD degree in network engineering from the Department of Electronic & Electrical
Engineering, University College London
(UCL). My MSc and BSc degrees were from Department
of Computer Science, Jilin
University,
At 2000 I joined in Networks
& Services Group at Department of
Electronic & Electrical Engineering, University
College London (UCL) as a research fellow in response to the call from the
then newly funded big EU IST
5th Framework Project FAIN (Future
Active IP Network). More than half a year later, I also
took part in another EU IST
project MANTRIP serving as one of
the main technical contributors. After the successful finish of MANTRIP I began
working on one of the last IST 5FP projects CONTEXT
until I took a lectureship in
As a full time academic staff, I supervise
PhD/MSc/UG students; teach at both the MSc and
UG levels on topics concerning data networks and networked computing; and take
responsibility of supervising MSc
Software Laboratory, MSc
Network Lab (2003-04) of the Department. I served as a PhD external
examiner in both UK universities (such as King’s College London, UCL,
Surrey, Sussex, Brunel, etc.
My main research interests include: Wireless networks (including WiMAX,
WiFi, mobile ad-hoc networks, sensor networks), heterogeneous
wireless networks, network convergence (inc. fixed mobile convergence), IP
network management, Future Internet technologies (such as network
virtualization), pervasive service engineering, cloud computing. Please refer to my publications, my
professional activities and researches
for more information.
Apart from network engineering, I am interested in culture, Chinese
ancient literature and poetry, martial novels written by JIN Yong, travelling,
cycling, badminton, among other activities.
