Logistics and Practical Information
Travel to Newtown (Powys)
Gregynog can be reached by car or by train to Newtown, Powys. For
information on location and reaching Gregynong by road see Gregynog's
location page
Trains to and from Birmingham run every two hours, with onward connections
to e.g. London Euston and Birmingham International Airport. Train
times from and to London Euston, Birmingham, Birmingham and
Manchester Airports are listed
here.
Note that a replacement bus service in in operation
for part of the journey between Newtown and Birmingham on Sunday,
September 9th, due to engineering works, but this does not entail
having a separate booking or ticket.

From Newtown (Powys) to Gregynog
Gregynog is in the country 6 miles from Newtown. If you can let
S.J. Hannahs or Maggie Tallerman
know by September 1st at the latest which train you are arriving on,
we should be able to arrange transport from Newtown to Gregynog. If you are arriving at an
unusual time you will need to phone for a taxi. The cost is around
£10. Here are some taxi numbers:

Gregynog
Gregynog is in the country. It has a gift shop but there are no
ordinary shops or cash points in the area. You should make sure that
you bring everything you will need with you to Gregynog (including
toiletries and cash for the bar). Note that the conference starts
after lunch on the Friday.
Some further points:
- There is no mobile phone reception at or near Gregynog, but there
are public call boxes in the house.
- Gregynog has wireless broadband and several machines in public
areas with internet connections
- Accommodation is fairly basic and not all rooms have en suite facilities.
- If you are using a handout, you should bring 30 copies with you as only emergency xeroxing can be done at Gregynog (for 10p per sheet).
- A data projector and laptop are provided for talks.
