My research interests are in the development of theories of human linguistic ability. My work focuses on how insights from generative linguistic theories help us understand the development of grammatical knowledge by second language learners. A specific hypothesis that I have explored in empirical work is that abstract features that give rise to surface differences between languages, but appear to have no semantic function (so-called 'uninterpretable features'), are subject to a critical period. I am currently the Director of the MA in Applied Linguistics and Assistant Research Student Coordinator. • Current projects • Current PhD students • Former PhD students • Publications
