Hammersmith Head 2011
Two men’s 8 were entered into the Hammersmith Head 2011 and we saw an
eventful race for both!

Essex’s first boat had old Captain and Alumni member Mike Scarff sub in
at six seat. The crew powered through after Mike had his blade snap
1k in. The whole team pulled together to the end. Special recognition
should go to stroke side for their cool heads and hard pushes on the
legs. The first crew came in at 70th with a time of 12:04.
The second crew had their own set of problems when a crew that had stop
half way down the race pulled into the middle of the course in front of
Essex B crew. With cox Cristian Martin’s fast thinking and the crew’s
cool heads the crash was minimal for Essex with only Stroke's blade
smacking into the other crews bows. They pulled it to the end finishing
83rd with a time of 12:20.
Women’s Head of the River 2011
With illness and injury rife in the women’s team they were at first
unsure whether they were going to be able to get a crew out for WEHORR.
However with the helpful and extremely appreciated support of DMU and
the great help from newest member, Rachel Taylor the crew was formed.
Coach Tony Moule coxed the ladies to the end of the 7.5K course.
Thanks to Caitlin from DMU.
Fundraising efforts show success

Rowing Volunteers make the best Volunteers!

Around 15 members of the rowing club volunteered to refurbish at the local Greenstead Community Centre. The community centre needed to revamp its old look and called in the students union and sports and societies to help. The club spent one Friday painting and climbing the scaffolding to get to those hard to get places. This was an excellent team building activity and demonstrates the clubs commitment to the community.

teach new people into the sport. Explore Rowing will help participating clubs
with the delivery of a new 'learn to row' scheme as well as a variety of new
activities which will range from social rowing events to personal challenges,
summer heads to tours.
Chris Newson, Vice President 2010-11 is named Explore Rowing

De Montfort Visit 2010

From the 26th-28th November, UERC was paid a visit from De Montfort University Rowing Club who came down for some joint training and friendly competition to help Essex establish links with more rowing clubs across the country. Around 40 De Montfort Rowers visited Essex which gave both clubs an opportunity to further develop their training as well as have a lot of fun, mixing our crews together and giving both clubs the opportunity to see a new perspective on training and building success for the club. A big thank you to De Montfort Rowing Club for helping make this weekend a great success, it was a privilege to host them as a club.
Cambridge Winter Head 2010
UERC gave an excellent performance in Cambridge on November 20th, just 1 month into the university term. 6 crews were entered, including 3x M4+, 2x M8+ and a Women's 4+ which included 2 freshers. Emma Conway and Carmen Gonzalez had their first racing experience over the 2.5km course. Also, our new coxwain, Nora Malaj had her first experience coxing a race.
