About the Club
The University of Essex Rowing Club (UERC) was established in 1995. During its short history, the club has been based at various locations around Essex and Suffolk, however finally settled at Ardleigh Reservoir in 2003 where we currently train.
Over the years, the club has grown through the hard work, commitment and dedication of its members allowing it to compete both at local and national levels, at various head of the river races and regattas.
Although primarily set up by students for students, UERC now offers adult membership to the general public. As one of only two rowing club's in Essex, not only does this benefit the local community by making rowing accessible, it will enable the club to grow and develop faster whilst ensuring its long-term sustainability.
Over the past season we have competed at a number of local and national events including the Head of the River Race (HORR) where the club climbed over 50 places from our previous years finish to record our best ever position of 290th. Also our women’s crew did very well to finish 259th at the Women’s Head of the River. Some of our other highlights of the year include our first ever BUCS points won by Emma Nilsson at the Birmingham Indoor competition and also qualifying the highest number of crews for the BUCS regatta in May (5 different crews).
For the coming year we aim to push forward with both our men’s and women’s crew to further high achievement. We will be doing this under the guidance of our coach Antony Moule, who this year won the national award for “Coach of the Year for Educational Development” for his work with us and for the first time he will be backed up by two volunteer coaches who are UERC alumni rowers themselves and are instilled with our desire for success. With the help of the University of Essex Students' Union, we will have High Performance crews who will look at creating history for UERC with their achievements.
Please feel free to look through the website which should answer any questions you may have, however if there is anything you are not sure about, please feel free to contact us.
UERC is looking to push our boundaries and break even more records of achievement in the coming year and we look forward to welcoming you on board!
