FAQs
Do I need to have rowed before?
No - Don't worry if you've never rowed before, the vast majority of new members haven't either. We take on people of any ability and will give you the best possible training. However, if you do have experience even better.
Do we race?
Yes, we are a competitive club. We make sure as many of our rowers race as regularly as possible. We enter many different classes so no matter at what stage you're at in your rowing career you can rest assured you will get some racing experience.
Do I need to be fit?
Yes but don't worry if you're not there yet, we will work on this with you to get you up to scratch. Rowing is a great sport for fitness and it really won't take long for you to see progress.
Do I need to be tall?
In general, with rowing, the taller the better. This by no means excludes shorter people, if you put the dedication in almost anyone can get good at rowing and there is no 'body-image' you must conform with. Also coxing is a very important role in any good rowing club and as far as that's concerned; the smaller the better! We are very keen to get some new coxes onboard so if you don't want to row but fancy trying coxing please do contact us so we can get you started.
Want to be a Cox?
At UERC we are always interested in new members! If
your small and light you could be a cox....
Contact us and see if you could be steering Essex in the right
direction!
