Notes:
Simple-majority (plurality) system. Under the BNP’s rules in 2010, leadership challengers needed to be nominated by 20% of individual members of two years’ standing. Eddy Butler’s blog listed the official result in 2010 as presented above with the exception of Griffin’s total, which Butler gave as 971. ‘The leadership challenge statement’, August 2010, available at <http://eddybutler.blogspot.com>.
In 2011, the selection system was simplified so that candidates required nominations from 10 party members of two years’ standing. Candidates needed to have been members for at least five years and were required to issue a £500 deposit, returnable if they secured more than 5% of the vote. For the first time, the chairman (i.e. the leader) was elected for a four-year term. In 2011, there were 11 spoilt ballots. No turnout figure was released.
2014: Nick Griffin resigned as Chairman (i.e. leader) and was replaced by Adam Walker as acting Chairman without a ballot.
* Incumbent
